Research and technology transfer projects are an integral part of the Centre. Our main research ideas are based on collaboration (along the supply chain and via capacity sharing) and integration (within the company). Research at Honours and Masters level follow these research idea and are clustered accordingly.
Collaboration along the supply chain is about companies sharing information, processes and infrastructure along the supply chain.Collaboration via capacity sharing means that companies at the same level of the supply chain combine their resources to increase service quality or reduce costs. Even competitors can do so if they realize that certain parts of the supply chain are not an competitive advantage, but just a cost-factor.
Integration deals with intra-company communication and information systems to support this. New technologies facilitate collaboration and simplify its implementation in enterprises. Telematics, positioning systems, mobile data transfer, transponder technology, networking technology and terminal technology influence the supply chain and allow for autonomy of the logistics entities such as cargo, transit equipment and transportation systems.
